Highstack - January and looking forward

Bragging rights for each event have been strongly contested within the poker forum and it was good to engage battle with many who regularly read and contribute to the forum.

2004 was my first full year of poker (no doubt like many of you). If I measure my ability now against the standard and knowledge that I demonstrated twelve months ago, then I believe that my game has improved enormously. Skills have been enhanced through education, determination but most of all through participation and practice. However, to make that next step I need to polish a few important attributes of the game.

Perhaps, like me, you have made some new years resolutions to assist in increasing the profits (or reducing the losses!). I particularly need to improve in the areas of patience and discipline. These are very important aspects of the game and I am aware that they are among my weaker skills. Therefore I will be doing my utmost to give this my full attention in order to achieve greater success.

This year I will be entering all the satellite tournaments that Betfair Poker are offering. It is my intention to try and win a place at one of the major events (nice holiday too!), sit down to tackle the professionals and discover how they play.

Finally, if you enjoyed a drink in front of your computer while playing poker this Christmas, then I hope that either you kept the stakes low or were prepared to lose. Poker and alcohol really don't mix too well take advice from someone who has discovered the hard way. The night before Christmas Eve I entered a single table tournament, when I arrived home after a few drinks. I fell asleep three times during the game and on the third time I awoke, I had been eliminated!

I sincerely hope that 2005 brings you good cards, good fortune and most of all, a huge amount of enjoyment. I look forward to meeting you at the tables during the coming year and I hope that I play against many of you all in the guaranteed £100,000 tournament on January 22nd.
